There are two types of CFL; integrated and non integrated. Integrated CFLs have a ballast/transformer built in at the bottom of the base and ready for installation for any basic candelabra, medium, or mogul base socket.

Non integrated CFLs usually have pins at the bottom of the base of the bulb and require a remote transformer/ballast for proper functionality.

Life expectancy of all CFLs range from an impressive 6000-15000 hours! and are available in different kelvin temperatures to enhance the room's color.

With today's technology, there are some CFL's that are compatible with dimmers, so you can have more control of the intensity of the light in the room.
